Stay-at-home Moms

I have to come clean. I do have to admit I get a little miffed when others say to me..."So you're just a stay-at-home mom?" or "Your house must be spotless because you stay at home and have all that free time." or "Must be nice to be a stay-at-home mom." I am so blessed to be able to stay at home with my child. Not many people can do this. I see it truly as a gift from God and a desire I have had since I was young. I grew up wanting to be a mom as my occupation. My mom and Kurt's mom both stayed at home so we both valued this role when we got married. I know plenty of mothers who long to be at home with their children but have to work. My heart aches for them. I LOVE being with my baby at home. However, I would like to clear up some misconceptions! My house is not spotless, in fact, it probably hasn't been vacuumed in over a month. My washing machine is piled high full of baby-poop stained baby clothes, which might get washed over the weekend. My cats are always meowing and rubbing their faces on my because they are so attention-deprived. My day is spent trying to please a baby who is classified as "high-need" who wakes up every 30 minutes at night to be comforted back to sleep. I think if I were working, I would be less tired from going to work than staying at home with sweet baby Jack. That's not to say I would rather be at work, because I wouldn't. Just wanted to let you know that I am not just laying around watching movies! :)

Meg, I love this post and truly value the same for us when we have a baby, as both of our mothers were at home also. In fact, I get a few questions even now since nursing allows me to work 3-4 days a week. They always ask me, what do you do the other days? And no my house is not spotless either nor am I caught up with laundry. The truth is I work 3 days, and sleep at least 2 days on either sides of my shifts from being worn out, and spend the other time taking care of Colby, which has provided to be enough! I think it's wonderful that you are able to spend much needed time with sweet Jack-just what you were called to do! :)
