Happy 2nd Birthday Jack!

Jack,

I can't believe you are already 2 years old! Time has gone by so fast and you are changing so much every day. Daddy and I feel so privileged to be your parents and we love having you as our son. Every night Daddy and I talk about what you did that day and we are in constant amazement at how bright and sweet you are. You love your dad so much and you always want to do what he is doing. Just yesterday you helped him scrub the cars and spray them with the hose. You also helped me "clean" for Mamo and Papa. I gave you a towel and water bottle and you cleaned everything in the house. A little water never hurt anything! You are such a sweet boy with a gentle and quiet spirit. But once you get comfortable with your surroundings, you really open up. You challenge me each day to lean on the Lord and ask him for guidance and wisdom in being a mother.

Here are a few extra details about your personality and what you've been up to:

*You love your Mom so much and always have so much fun with her. You get so excited to go out to lunch for a smoothie and soft pretzel with her - it has to be your favorite meal! She is so creative with the crafts you make together, and you have the best time "cooking" with her with your kitchen and plastic foods. She also takes you to fun places like the dinosaur exhibit at the museum, after which you spend the next day running around the house saying "ROOOAAARRR!!". You definitely still favor Mom, although you and Dad have lots of fun together too! (this was added by Kurt, just so you don't think Mom was complimenting herself!)

* You love Toy Story, especially Buzz and Rex. You received both characters, as well as Woody, for your birthday and you can't put them down. You call Buzz by the name "Fly" and are very distressed when you can't find him! You love that you can press a button to make Buzz talk and shoot his lasers, but that means Dad has to hide Buzz in the morning so you don't wake me up!

* You are somewhat of a picky eater, but oh how you love waffles and blackberries for breakfast! You also love sweets and regularly ask for ice cream or cookies.

* Your speech is really blossoming...today you said popcorn on the way to the movie theater! You are also saying 2 and 3-word sentences.

*You have an excellent memory...I told you a few weeks ago that Mamo and Papa were coming to visit and were bringing you a dinosaur. Every day you would say "Mamo Roaarr!"

* You can be sneaky...the other day your dad found you quietly standing in the pantry eating chocolate chips. One of your hands was full of them and with the other you were popping them one at a time. The floor was covered with chips as well.

*You have really developed a sense of humor. You love to call me "Dada" or Dad "Mama" and then crack up! You also love to try to make us sniff your feet while we change your diapers.

* You love your pets to pieces. If they ever let you catch them, all you want to do is lay down and hug them. You are always imitating Henry, even licking things! Eww!

* You are very interested in bugs, but not always sure about them when they move. We were out shopping the other day and you were frozen stiff trying to avoid a cricket jumping towards you!

* You are obsessed with trucks and tractors! We often watch construction near the house and I think you could stay there all day! You can hear the garbage truck from the other side of the house and love to run to the window to watch it pass.

* You are very loving and love to be cuddled. You are great at giving hugs and kisses and you especially love butterfly kisses!

*You go to Kids Day Out 1 or 2 days each week and do really well there. Occasionally we get ice cream from McDonald's afterwards, and now you already recognize what a McDonald's looks like when we drive by!

*You enjoy reading your Bible and love the stories with lions in them.

*You love to imitate other people laughing. It is so hilarious!

*Today when you woke up you were roaring like a dinosaur.

*You love to cook with me. I think it has something to do with the fact that you get to eat what we make or lick the beater! This is one of my favorite things to do with you.

*You are starting to learn your colors. When I ask you what color something is, you always respond "boo" (blue). But when I ask you to find the green or red crayon, you are typically very accurate! Not only are you able to find the color, but also the right size. You were coloring with a small pink crayon and I said, "Jack, let Mommy find you a big pink crayon." Before I could even look, you had exchanged your small one for the big pink crayon.

*You are still in speech therapy and doing really well with your expressive speech. Melanie says you are very smart and have exceptional receptive/cognitive skills. When we read books, you are able to identify which bear is the daddy bear and which is the mommy or baby. You are also able to match all of your train cards when we lay them out of the table. Each one only has 1 match! It's amazing to me.

*You just learned to say the word "no" and now you walk around the house saying "no" for no reason! We can't wait until you learn the word "yes"!

Today we opened presents in the morning. You received a kitchen from Mema and Papa and a Matchbox garage from Uncle BJ, both of which you loved instantly. I think it was hard for you to choose what to play with at first! Mommy and Daddy gave you Toy Story toys and a Little People Bus. When you opened the Woody doll, you said "Whoahhh!"

We went to the movies for the first time to see Toy Story 3! You sat in your little chair and ate your popcorn for at least an hour. For the rest of the time, you walked up and down the aisles watching the movie, occasionally climbing up on a seat to rest. You were so good and you loved the movie! Daddy and I loved your commentary throughout the movie!

Later in the day, Momo and Papa arrived!!! It didn't take you long to fall in love with them all over again! They brought you a big bag of presents, filled with dinosaurs, dinosaur books and stamps, dinosaur jammies, a dinosaur shirt, The Land Before Time movie, a new winter jacket, and so many other cute clothes. We played all afternoon and then headed to Floore's Country Store for dinner and live country music. You loved it!

We didn't get to go out for ice cream on your birthday, but you made up for it by eating a whole chocolate cake at the restaurant. When I got distracted while giving you bites of the cake, you took matters into your own hands, literally! We caught you stuffing the rest of the cake in your mouth, and your face was covered in chocolate icing.

Sweet 2-year-old Jack!

Jack loved reading his new dinosaur book with Papa!

And Mama too! He was always up for reading it.
