6 Months!

Jack is 6 months today! The other day in our Sunday school class, everyone commented how much he was starting to look like a little boy. My heart ached quite honestly. I want to see him grow and change and hear him say "I love you mommy" but at the same time I want him to stay my little baby boy forever. I suppose I understand now why mothers say things like "My baby is graduating from college today." I think I will always picture Jack as "Sweet Baby Jack" with his big blue eyes, the cute little dimples over the back of his knuckles, and his cute brown Alfalfa hair. His personality is very vibrant and he is very attentive to his surroundings...always looking around and trying to grab everything within reach. He has started trying to pick things up with his first finger and thumb. He has even started looking for his toys when they fall to the ground or leaning forward to see someone if someone else is in his way. It's quite funny! He likes to flirt with a little girl names Maddie in our Sunday school. She's one.
Jack is also eating a little more baby food...now we are at bananas, avocado, squash, carrots, rice cereal...peas might be next!
He loves his daddy without a doubt. His two favorite daddy-activities are bath time and super-baby (see picture below). If only I had time to sew him a little cape. Everyone (except Kurt) says Jack looks just like his daddy.

Jack is able to roll to his tummy and lift his whole chest up off the floor. He hasn't quite mastered rolling back to his back. I think he could do it physically, but he just hasn't quite learned to move his arm out of the way. He loves to be held and loves to hold onto your face. You might even get bitten in the nose if you aren't careful. He now has 2 teeth (teefies as we call them). He started sitting up recently as well but can only keep his balance for about 10 seconds at a time before falling backwards!
Look closely at the picture below and you can see one of his teeth!

He loves to be outside enjoying the fresh air. He loves to watch our cats run around the house and Hudson jumping up in the window (talk about distraction from eating). He might even be lucky enough to have Micki sit next to him until he starts pulling her fur and waving his arms in her face.

Jack loves to talk and babble. Most of all he loves to be tickled and laughs hysterically. Another activity that Jack enjoys with mommy is his massage. He has finally gotten to the point where he lays quite still and just smiles anticipating my massage.

Jack also has many facial expressions. A few I can think of are his happy face, trying-not-to smile face, worried look, interested look (eyebrows raised), his concentration face (tongue barely sticking out), and his pooping-serious face.

He is still nursing regularly and has yet to bite me with his teefies. I am sure this will come soon knowing Jack. The other day I had the hiccups while nursing. Every time I hiccuped he stopped, looked at me with eyebrows raised (as if I had just intentionally tickled or poked him) and then smiled. He would then go back to nursing only to "receive" a hiccup 5 seconds later, and the process would start all over again. It was hilarious. Needless to say, our nursing session took a little longer then normal.

Jack now sleeps through the night. He eats at 7, goes down and then eats again at 10 (when I wake him up). He sleeps until 6 or 7 in the morning, sometimes waking up at 3 or 4 to get his diaper changed. For those of you who know Jack, this is nothing short of a miracle. The entire year of 2008 was a year of no sleep and complete exhaustion. I stopped sleeping in January last year due to pregnancy and then Jack never slept once he was born. We learned to persevere and lean on the Lord to say the least.

Jack is just a delight and we are constantly in awe of him. We cannot get over the fact that God created a human being and that he is a living breathing person of his own with a soul. I never thought I could get so excited over seeing a baby smile or kick his legs. I think I am the first mother to love her child this much. ;)

Jack isn't really 6 months already, is he? Wow, how the time goes by! I totally understand about "your baby" Inara may be small, but she isn't even close to "baby any more" and oh, how I miss the snuggles, even the late night feedings every now and then.
They get big and grow up so fast, I'm glad you've learned to take it all in and love little Jack so well!

We may have to do something about that cape for sure! Every super baby needs a good super baby cape!

That first picture is my FAVORITE! It looks like he's striking a pose to flex his muscles - adorable!

I never get tired of reading a mom's account of the love she has for her child. It's fiercely strong!

Happy 6 Months, Jack!

I just now got a chance to look at Jack's pics and read your stories and comments (You know I read most of my e-mails at work and all the good stuff is blocked). Jack's pics make me laugh and smile - he has such a personality in all of them. I hope all is well with the 3 of you. Keep sending me stuff - I love seeing Jack in all his stages!
