Colorado: Day Two!

Today we decided to satisfy Meg's shopping bug, particularly since it was the coldest and most rainy day of the week!  First, we took a scenic drive down Highway 24 through the mountains, which was breathtaking.  We then headed to Manitou Springs, which is a small historic town with several mineral springs and a cute downtown shopping area.  My favorite part was finding my future home...a pink house (see below)!  We then headed to Old Colorado City, and then to Colorado Springs to do even more antiquing!  We went to one antique shop because it claimed to be "award winning", but Kurt thinks they gave themselves the award.  He went ahead and awarded them the "Worst Antique Shop EVER".

After a long day of shopping, we ate at the highly recommended Edelweiss German restaurant in Colorado Springs.  This is the restaurant that Kurt's parents had their rehearsal dinner at thirty years ago.  We could still see where his Dad carved his initials in the bathroom (j/k!).  All of the waitresses spoke German, and the jagerschnitzel was perfect.  When we came home, we walked around the ranch to see all of the animals...the goats, the mating ponies (seriously!), the horses, and the cats.  Jack's favorite so far is the colts that eat grass from your hand.

The Donut Mill - where they serve cinammon rolls as big as your head (look just under the left elbow of the gentlemen on the right)
Kurt believes that the springs have healing powers - Meg's not so sure considering he was no different after drinking the water.

I'm glad you're enjoying your trip! I hope you get some warm sunny days soon, too! You'll have to tell us where the restaurant is located, and any GOOD antique stores so we can try them in July when we are there :-)
