It was my privilege to defend my Savior this past weekend. Let me say that He does not need defending per se..He's God! However, I did get to defend my faith in Jesus. In a perfect world I would have the entire Bible memorized and would have answered the door when my Jehovah's witness friend knocked (weekly or biweekly for several months). Well, here's the truth. I probably have 2-3 scriptures memorized and I did not answer the door...I hid behind the couch or the curtain. Sounds silly and ridiculous. A few months back before I had Audrey I had a nice conversation with 2 Jehovah's witnesses on my driveway. They were extremely friendly and I accepted their materials telling them that I would review them and that they were welcome to return any time they wanted. I did read (some) of the material they gave me.

Let me interject here and say I loved people, including these two Jehovah's witnesses. I admire their strong faith, diligence in pursuing people and their amazing dedication to studying "their bible" and memorizing scripture. They work hard and are probably more dedicated to sharing their faith than most Christians. The cool part? They think they are pursing me, however, God is pursing them by continuing to lead them back to my house over and over and over again. He is more diligent than they are. The problem is me....I am the one not being obedient to share the gospel with them.

Well the stars aligned and I happened to be out on my driveway stripping paint off an old chair when my friend M (we'll call her) drove up with her apprentice. Truth...I cringed. I thought, "Noooo, I don't have time for this. I am stripping my chair! It's Sunday, one of my only days to work on projects that require Kurt's supervision of the kids." Needless to say, God was able to still work through me despite my attitude and lack of excitement to talk about Him!

Our conversation started out lightly. O how have you been? Good. You? What have you been up to? O a wedding? How fun! Did you get a chance to review the materials I gave you?

This is where I had a decision to make. Kurt and I had been talking about how when they came back to our house and we had an opportunity we would (together) tell them that we disagreed with what they believed. I was prepared for this uncomfortable conversation.

Here was my response:
Yes, I did get a chance to look at them. I am a Christian and there are many things that I disagree with.

This is where the friendly debate began. Here is what I learned and also what I know to be truth. I will first state what M believes and follow that in bold by what the Bible teaches.

1. Jesus was a perfect human. He is not God. He did not exist from the beginning of time. He was created. He was God's firstborn. Truth: Jesus is God. He has existed from the beginning of time as part of the Trinity. He was born as a human here on earth in order to provide a way of salvation and to live as an example for us to follow.

2. Heaven is only for a select few. The rest of us will stay here on earth.

3. We are saved through Jesus' death.

4. The Holy Spirit is a force that goes to and fro, not a person.

5.
